Cell Phone External Battery Pack Bag

Recording video on your phone? You’ll need a cell phone external battery pack because video will drain your power fast. We’ve created a great little bag to stow your battery that can clip to your belt loop, backpack or a tripod.

We’ve dressed up the bag with a “Hangout” appliqué that doubles as a business card holder. “Hangout’s” are a free video conferencing feature of Google Plus. As of today you can video conference with up to 10 people at once. Pretty sweet!

I designed this external battery pack bag for my husband to take on business trips where he might do a lot of recording on his cell phone. I didn’t have black yarn…so used blue for the bag. Probably not the best choice since many people associate blue with Facebook!

Leprechaun Hat Jar Cozy and Green Food for St. Patrick’s Day

For St. Patrick’s Day, we’ve created a Leprechaun hat jar cozy.

This jar is the perfect way to gift green foods to your friends and family for the holiday! Our green food of choice…frozen lime flavored grapes. We’d call them sour grapes…but you might get the wrong idea. This is better described as a healthy version of Sour Patch Kids candy.

This hat design is quite versatile. The cozy itself fits a to-go coffee cup. And if you change the colors (to black, for example), this would be perfect for President’s Day or any special occasion where a top hat is needed.

Let’s start with the green food because it needs time to freeze.

Green Food – Sweet & Sour Grapes

Any green food would be cute stored in this festive Leprechaun hat jar, but we’ve got a fun, healthy and super easy recipe for you…Sweet and Sour Grapes. The green grapes are the sweet part. The lime Jello is the sour part. They are surprisingly delicious!

Ingredients and Supplies:

1 box lime jello

2 lbs. green grapes

Resealable bag – gallon size

2 Pint size mason jars

Directions:

Pour lime jello powder into resealable bag.
Wash your hands.
Wash the grapes.
Pluck grapes off of vine. Place in bag while still wet.
Shake bag to coat grapes with jello.
Place grapes in mason jars and freeze for a couple of hours.
Serve frozen.
Store in freezer or refrigerator depending on how cold you like them.

Leprechaun Hat Jar Cozy

This crochet Leprechaun hat is also easy to make. And it whips up in a couple of hours. This top hat design is shown here in green…but with a simple color change, this cozy would fit any formal or patriotic occasion (a red, white and blue would be great for July 4^th in the US – just sayin’).

This is a great stash buster. We’ve used Lion Brand yarns. The Kelly Green and Black are Vanna’s Choice. The Gold is Vanna’s Glamour. We love the way the Gold sparkles next to the Kelly Green.

Rnd 1-7: Sc around. (34)

Rnd 8: 33 sc. Drop Kelly Green and change color to Black with a sl st. (34)

Rnd 9: Ch 2, dc around. Join with a sl st. (34)

Finish off Black and weave in ends.

Pick up Kelly Green.

Rnd 10: Ch 1. Sc around. (34)

Rnd 11: 33 sc, sl st. (34)

Rnd 12: Working in the front loops only, sc around. (34)

Rnd 13: *Sc inc, sc* around. (51)

Rnd 14: *Sc inc, 2 sc* around. (68)

Rnd 15: *4 sc, sc inc* around. End with 2 sc, sl st. (82)

Finish off and weave in ends.

BUCKLE INSTRUCTIONS

Gold

Hook: C

Ch 18

Row 1: Dc in 3^rd ch from hook. 2 dc, dc inc, ch 2, * 3 dc, dc inc, ch 1* 3 times. Join with a sl st. (16)

Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Pin then sew belt buckle in a square over the Black “ribbon”. Weave in ends.

Each element is cute enough to stand on its own. The hat is adorable. The mitts are cute. But the tail on the diaper cover and the little booties get the most rave reviews. This is a delightful photo prop.

Broomstick Lace Scarf and Cowl Pattern

Have you tried Broomstick Lace? It is a lot of fun. We’ve incorporated it into this scarf and cowl pattern. Not only does this broomstick lace use two different sizes of knitting needles, it has a repeated motif that includes single crochet and puff stitch.

This is an adorable scarf and attractive cowl. The design is so fun, you’ll want to make both the cowl and the scarf for yourself!

Don’t be fooled…this is 100% crochet! It only looks like a knitted project!

Broomstick Lace and Puff Stitch Videos

We’ve created a couple of videos to show you how easy those stitches are to crochet. So, if you don’t know how to crochet broomstick lace or the puff stitch…or if it’s been a while since you have…No problem.

The Broomstick Lace video shows traditional broomstick lace and single stranded broomstick lace like this pattern uses.

Broomstick Lace Scarf and Cowl Pattern Details

The scarf in the above photos is crocheted in Vanna’s Sequins. It’s a light weight yarn (3). The scarf is shown in Ruby.

The cowl is crocheted in Sensations Enchantment. It’s listed as a Medium weight (4) yarn but it feels similar in weight to the Vanna’s Sequins. The cowl shown below is crocheted in Pink Metallic.

The pattern includes lots of photos. It has all of our signature stuff like checkboxes to mark your progress, supplies list, instructions for special stitches, etc. And now, the special stitches have videos.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Stitches used: Broomstick Lace, Puff Stitch, Single Crochet, Chain

Once you learn the stitches, this scarf is super easy and fun to crochet.

Milky Whey is a yarn from Kollage yarns. It’s 50% Milk and 50% Soy.

Milky Whey is soft and dreamy. I love working with it and wearing it!

Alternatives would be bamboo or silk or some blend of yarn that has little elasticity.

Free Crochet Santa Hat Pattern

This free crochet Santa hat pattern is festive and fun. It’s one-size-fits-all, fitting both men and women! Per my husband’s request, we crocheted ours in green. (Caution: someone called him a Grinch because his hat is green!)

This hat is perfect for office parties, wearing at school and even as a warm winter hat! Crochet in red for a traditional look or go wild and crazy with an untraditional color that makes you feel the most jolly.

Santa (and the Grinch) wears a red and white hat. Elves wear green and white or green and red hats.

Free Crochet Santa Hat Pattern Details

The ribbed brim on this free Santa Hat pattern makes the hat naturally adjust to various sizes of heads. Though designed for a man (with 23” head), I’m often seen around town wearing this hat.

The pattern is worked from the bottom up in half double crochet with decreases each round.

Add a 3” pom pom to the top and you’re ready for Christmas!

Surprise! We are happy to share some knitted dishcloth patterns with you. I know, a departure from our usual offerings. These are simple projects that are perfect for the beginner knitter….like us! This is the first knitting project we’ve put together for this blog!

The back story: When my teenage neighbors taught me (Dana) to knit, the first project they showed me was Grandmother’s Favorite dishcloth. Later, after getting the hang of how to knit and purl, I wanted to spruce up the dishcloths a bit. So, I sought out other patterns and even charted my own (the smiley face is my own creation)! So, here you go.

Knitted Dishcloth Patterns –Details About The Dishies

The knitted dishcloth patterns are free and come with three designs. Along with written directions, there are charts are for the dishcloths with patterns in their centers.

Skill Level: Easy

Materials: Cotton Yarn

Here’s what’s included:

1. Simple Knit Dishie

Perfect for the beginner. Pick up a beautiful variegated yarn and work up this simple knit dishie. It is knit on the diagonal using an increase and decrease and knit stitch.

Crochet Star Trek Badge – A Coffee Cup Cozy

Love Star Trek? Love Coffee? This Star Trek Badge was made for a coffee cup cozy! (Or use the communicator badge as an appliqué on other projects.)

If you aren’t a Trekkie but are making a coffee cup cozy for one…please note that color matters! Here’s a quick guide to color selection (for the main cozy portion):

Yellow = Command (like Captain Kirk)

Blue = Science and Medical (like Spock and Dr. McCoy)

Red = Engineering and Security (like Scotty or crew members who die)

Crochet Star Trek Badge – The Pattern

The Star Trek Badge has a very distinctive shape. It changed slightly over the years…but always had the three pointed ends. This pattern uses the basic shape that was introduced in the original season.

We decided to make a crochet cup cozy or two. But once we got started, we couldn’t stop! As you can see, we made animals, holidays and seasons, not to mention wild, crazy and elegant. There’s literally something here for everyone and something for most every season!

Every design we came up has modifications to fit cups, mugs and mason jars….cause you never know when you want the design for tappered cups or mugs with handles.

As we were creating our designs we thought it would be fun to create cute gifts in mason jars. So, every other week for one year, we created a mason jar cozy gift. We’ve consolidated all the cozies, included all three sizes (mugs, cups and jars), added the gift idea (recipe or craft) and created an 80+ page ebook!
